Cherry Banana Smoothie

Being pregnant has pros, including the ability to eat more. My breakfast has become THE most important meal of the day. I can’t go more than 20-30 minutes without eating in the morning now without getting sick to my stomach. When baby wants food, she wins.

One of my go-to breakfasts to pack in some nutrients is smoothies. They’re so versatile and quick! One fruit we always have in our house are bananas. If you don’t eat them quick, they get too brown to use. That being said, smoothies are a great way to ensure they get eaten and they go with just about every other fruit so it’s hard to mess up the flavors.

This morning I was looking through the different frozen fruits in the freezer, and realized there were some cherries that I had forgotten about. Good thing they can be used in smoothies just as easily as strawberries or mango. We had a large bunch of bananas too, so I figured they’d be okay together.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

1 banana
1 cup frozen cherries, pitted
1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
1 cup milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
optional: 1 tbsp of sweetener

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to blender.
  2. Blend! For thinner consistency add additional milk.
  3. Serve in a glass and enjoy!

I personally don’t need to add any additional sweetener to smoothies to make them sweet, but some may prefer it. The flavors are more Jamba Juice or Orange Julius if you sweeten them more, so for a treat, make it to be enjoyed. An additional modification includes substituting almond extract for vanilla – use 3-4 drops almond to prevent overpowering the drink.

Modify to vegan with a coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, or other choice and swap the greek yogurt for your favorite vegan yogurt.

Let me know what you think of this one or if you modify the recipe!
