Authentic Indian Masala Chai Tea

Authentic Indian masala chai is one type of tea that I’ve tried and it changed my view on tea. I remember my first glass was when we were visiting family and if I had been more comfortable I would have loved to have more. I tried a few recipes from home and just. never was able to replicate how good it was. Finally this recipe has just about done it for me and has become a routine for a few mornings a week.

Another thing I love about this tea is that it works great with breakfast, afternoon snacks, and a great way to get a group together. It also works with different types of milk. My personal favorite is coconut milk because it is so creamy, but that is a thick and higher calorie beverage.

What you’ll love about this authentic Indian masala chai?

  1. It’s delicious and warming for a cold winter day. When you’re cold outside, you may enjoy warming up with a cup of this!
  2. Can be made vegan. Swap your milk for a plant-based milk and use maple syrup for the sweetener.
  3. It’s quick and easy to make. Skip the drive thru line and make this in 10 minutes or less at home.
  4. Less caffeine than coffee makes it friendly to drink in the afternoon as well as the morning.
  5. As authentic as you will get without going to India!

How to make this authentic Indian masala chai?

  1. Cut up the ginger and get the other spices measured out.
  2. Heat the milk in the microwave for 60 seconds until it is warm.
  3. In a small pot, heat the milk with the spices and tea bags. Stir this frequently to prevent burning to the bottom of the pan.
  4. Once it’s warm enough, strain the spices and tea out of the milk. Stir in sweetener if desired.
  5. Enjoy hot!
