About Me

Welcome! Thank you for stopping to view my site. I’m so excited to share my passion of feeding people with you!

My name is Cassie, and I’m a food scientist by training. I have my bachelor’s degree in Food Science, and Master’s degree in Cereal Science. If you’re like me the first time you hear Cereal Science, you’re probably wondering what that is. It’s basically a specialized food scientist in cereal grains (wheat, rye, barley, oats, etc.). Ironically my research was focused in pulse crops (peas, chickpeas, beans, and lentils), which are one of my favorite food groups!

Several years ago, I started my ‘career’ in food science, as an intern with Hormel Foods as a product development intern in the research and development department. I enjoyed this job so much because it allowed me to use my creativity and training to help improve existing products and brainstorm ideas for new products. I’ve always enjoyed playing around in the kitchen, but this was actually doing it for a job.

I love cooking and making baked goods. My favorite things to make are vegetarian Indian dishes, sweets, and smoothies.

My Health Transformation

My interest in food began when I started college, and gained the freshman 15 (plus some). I then got into my health and wellness, lost the weight I gained, and began my journey to eating well. My husband and I started by adding more fruits and vegetables to our diet, and since eliminated the need for meats in our diet. Living in the north and following a vegetarian diet is difficult, but making food at home gives you so much potential for variety and experimenting!

My husband and I are new parents and have made lifestyle changes to prepare. We’ve essentially eliminated meat consumption (minus those cravings, they always win!). I’ve also gotten back into exercising more, which includes my favorite – YOGA! That and walking our rescue fur ball, Linq.

Feel free to drop me some comments on what you think! If you have any suggestions, or any recipes you’d like me to try! 🙂
