Been on a smoothie craze lately, just ask my husband. I think he’s getting sick of me force feeding him smoothies in the morning, but it’s just so fun to experiment. I’ve been craving a strawberry banana milk shake, but can’t bring myself to get one from any fast food joint being there is just SO much added sugar. With this little babe kicking me all day, it’s a constant reminder that not only do I need to fuel my body for me, but for her as well.
Thank goodness for that otherwise I’m sure by now I’d have had a few of these dang things. That being said, I thought about having a strawberry banana smoothie instead. Being we had fresh bananas, frozen strawberries, greek yogurt, vanilla, and milk – it didn’t hurt.
Both of us were surprised with this one. Not only was it a delicious smoothie, but it honestly was almost like getting a milkshake from Dairy Queen or Culver’s. It’s very rare that I ever go out and eat ice cream at places like this, being we’re trying to stick to a plant based diet and reduce our added sugars, and treats you can make at home like this sure help.
Preparation Time: 2 minutes
Blend Time: 1 minute
Total: 3 minutes
Yield: 1 serving
Ingredients
1 ripe banana
1 cup frozen strawberries
3/4 cup greek yogurt plain
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
Optional: Ice
Directions
- Measure out ingredients and add to blender
- Blend for 30 seconds – 1 minute to achieve desired consistency. Add additional milk to thin if needed
- Serve
Vegan option: omit yogurt and use ice and almond milk, or use a vegan yogurt. Fresh fruit only? No problem, add a few cubes of ice. Want it sweeter? Add a tbsp of honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup to sweeten it to your desire.
Personally I do not like to add ice to my smoothies, so I don’t. I use a Ninja blender at home, which has been somewhat of a letdown when I see what power the Vitamix and Blendtec blenders have. It’s on my wish list – someday. But first we have to get all the baby stuff! Strollers, car seats – oh my!
Anyway thanks for stopping and I hope you enjoy this smoothie. Let me know if you have suggestions or any comments!
