There was something in the air recently where nobody in our house was sleeping well. One night is manageable but when it’s multiple nights in a row you begin to need a pick me up. That is where Starbucks came back into my life. We had stopped coffee for quite some time, but here we found ourselves back at it. I switched from cold brew to lattes and found these amazing oatmilk lattes at Starbucks. After spending too much money I decided to take matters into my own hands and recreate some of my favorites at home – including this easy copycat Starbucks oatmilk honey latte. With black tea from Trader Joes, it really is delicious without the hit of caffeine from traditional coffee.

I love oatmilk lattes because they have less sugar than a traditional latte (oatmilk isn’t sweetened unless you add sugar, where milk naturally contains a lot of sugar). I also find the texture of oatmilk is perfect for creamy coffee and tea drinks. Typically I find a lot of coffees are just so blah, but oatmilk adds a new dimension on them. I also like lattes because they contain less caffeine than cold brew. If you suffer from acid stomach aches, sleep issues, or agitation too much caffeine could be to blame. With that said, I have tried to reduce or almost completely eliminate caffeine from my regular diet.

What you’ll love about this copycat starbucks oatmilk honey latte?

  1. It’s delicious just like Starbucks with half the sugar. I am a sucker for a treat from Starbucks here and there, but their drinks contain SO much sugar it’s almost nauseating when you start reading through their nutrition facts. Making it at home allows you to control how much of everything you add to it.
  2. It’s still super creamy. Don’t worry, skipping the drive-thru doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the foamy and creamy goodness.
  3. Less caffeine. Tea contains significantly less caffeine than coffee.  You can also swap out decaf instant coffee if you don’t have tea concentrate at home.
  4.  It’s quick and doesn’t take any special equipment. Sure you can use an immersion blender, but you don’t need it. This recipe doesn’t discriminate.

How to make this copycat Starbucks oatmilk honey latte?

Iced Oatmilk Honey Latte

  • Combine the honey, salt, and oat milk in a glass and stir well. To make it frothy, cover the glass and vigorously shake or blend with an immersion blender (whisk attachment works best for ice)
  • Add the black tea concentrate over the oat milk and fill to the top with ice.

Hot Oatmilk Honey Latte

  • In a microwave-safe glass, combine honey, salt, and oat milk.
  • Heat in the microwave for 60-90 seconds until hot. For a frothy drink, cover the glass and shake vigorously or blend with an immersion blender (whisk or froth attachment – whisk makes it more bubbly vs froth is traditional to coffee shops).
  • Heat the black tea concentrate in the microwave for about 45 seconds.
  • Pour the tea over the oat milk and enjoy!
